Annual High Tea extravaganza – this time by traveling Somewhere Over the Rainbow for a Wizard of Oz themed event.
The ladies-only affair takes place Thursday, September 15, from 4-6 p.m. in the Club’s "Emerald City” and features a lavish afternoon of tea and all of the trimmings, from champagne to chocolates. Guests are encouraged to wear their ruby slippers and most extraordinary hat to the event, which also includes a hat contest, live entertainment, and silent auction.
The tea party’s purpose is to champion Club programs that help teen and adolescent girls with life skills, self-esteem and healthy choices, explained staff member Tequia Clark. Out of the 1,510 young people served by the club last year, 47 percent were girls.
"Girls today have a lot on their plates,” Clark said. "Social pressures and unrealistic standards can cause a lack of self-respect, loss of identity and ridiculous levels of stress. Club programs keep girls on track and encourage positive personal decision making.”
General admission to the tea party is $75 per person. However, guests may choose to come as Fairy Godmothers for $100. Now in its second year, the Fairy Godmother Society is a sorority of caring women who go above and beyond to inspire and empower the young women of the Club, explained Chris Smith, tea committee member.
"There is something very special about women helping women. That’s why this event continues to grow - because of our enthusiasm for future generations of dynamic young women in our community.” Smith added that Fairy Godmothers will receive special recognition at the tea.
This year Wells Fargo will also receive special recognition as the event’s Premier Sponsor. "We are pleased to support the High Tea Party and the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County,” said Kelly Johnson, business banking relationship manager for Wells Fargo in Hendersonville. "It helps demonstrate Wells Fargo’s ongoing commitment to the Hendersonville community as we move forward in our integration. We’re responsible for being leaders to promote the long-term economic prosperity and quality of life for everyone in our communities. If they prosper, so do we.”
In addition, the Club is grateful for the support of Lead Sponsors Asheville Dental Care, Park Ridge Health, Lutrelle and Carey O’Cain. Other sponsors include Greene, Smith, Roddy & Co., PA, Boyd Automotive, BMW of Asheville, Homestead, Joseph Laughter Clothier, Mind Your Business, Cherry and Dick Troxel, Jim and Charlotte Walsh, Beverly Hanks & Associates, Prudential Lifestyle Realty, Pryor Insurance, Salon 104, The Sanctuary and Southern Alarm.
