Boys & Girls Club announces 2011 Local Hero Award recipient

(Hendersonville, NC – May 24, 2011) The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County will honor longtime Hendersonville resident Mrs. Eleanora Meloun as the 2011 Local Hero at the 5th Annual Celebration Dinner on Saturday, June 4th.

"Each year the Club celebrates an individual from the community who goes above and beyond with their efforts for others,” said Chris Smith, member of the club’s Board of Directors and chair of the Celebration Dinner Committee. "For decades, Eleanora has improved our community quietly and without fanfare. Her generosity has made a powerful impact on the people of Henderson County – especially for those people who need us the most.”

Mrs. Meloun initially moved to Hendersonville in the late 1950’s with her husband, Charles Meloun, and noted that the people of Henderson County made her realize it was the right place to spend her life. "We didn’t have to look all around the country. We knew we had found it,” she said.

Since then, her commitment to her adopted hometown has been profound. Mrs. Meloun’s transformational gifts to a wide variety of local agencies have nurtured and empowered the community’s most vulnerable populations. "I feel that it is important to give,” Meloun said. "The need has always been there, but even more today. The county has grown so.”

The theme of the Celebration Dinner this year is Mardi Gras, and the gala will celebrate the club’s supporters and children, in addition to the Local Hero tribute. The event will take place at Champion Hills Country Club. Tickets are $125 per person and tables of eight can be purchased. Event proceeds benefit the award-winning programs offered to the more than 1,500 children served by the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County throughout the year.

Dixon Hughes Goodman, Dixon Hughes Goodman Wealth Advisors, Mountain 1st Bank & Trust, Champion Hills Country Club, Kimberly-Clark, Silver Fox Gallery & Interiors, and Gary & Beverly Dillon, are also generously partnering with the Boys & Girls Club to make the fundraising event possible.
